Hempzels™ was the first company to use hemp seed in a
traditional Pennsylvania Dutch hard pretzel. Ground hemp seed meal was
used in the production of The Original Hemp Pretzel. After further research
the switch to shelled hemp seed
combined with unbleached winter wheat flour produced the now famous gourmet
sourdough pretzel. Referred to as "PEACES" in reference to the prohibition &
ignorance of hemp & since a majority have been shipped for years via mail &
they get broken up it was a great play on words.
Hempzels™ - Original - Sesame - Jalapeno - Garlic & now
Pumpernickel & Onion. Here the secret dough mix gets
divided and hand twisted.
Racked these Hempzels™ are then loaded row
after row , loaded into the gigantic circular old stone hearth, which slowly rotates
and bakes them a golden brown. They are mixed in 100lb batches per
flavor. They are fresh baked with no artificial preservatives.

In
1999 Food Distribution Magazine, awarded Hempzel's™ Sesame Pretzel 2nd place out of 30 pretzel submissions
as best tasting pretzel.. Beat out by a chocolate covered pretzel rod
submitted by a company in Ohio.

to shipping and handling and the fact that gluten is not present in hemp seed
or organic brown rice flour many of our delectable pretzel will become
broken during transit. Referred with love as "PEACES" We take every packing; precaution to ensure that
this does not happen. However, we can not; guarantee that all pretzels will
remain whole and are not responsible for this unfortunate occurrence.
